Hemme Henrichs

Hemme George Henrichs, son of Lammert George Hinrichs and Gossina Geerds Heikens, was born on January 31, 1892, in Wellsburg, Grundy County, Iowa.  He was baptized on April 3, 1892, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg.  His father died when he was a young boy, and he moved with his mother, stepfather, and siblings to Buffalo Center, Winnebago County, Iowa.  

















Kate Bertha Sloter, daughter of Berend Geerds Janssen Slooter (Ben Sloter) and Lauke Betten Schipper (Lucy), was born September 11, 1893, in Secor, Woodford County, Illinois.  She was the first of her parents children to be born in the United States.  She came with her family to Buffalo Center, Winnebago County, Iowa.

 

Family Timeline

September 22, 1914 - Hemme and Kate were married by J. H. Schoon, pastor of the Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, Winnebago County, Iowa.

1915 - Iowa state census - Woden, Grant Township, Winnebago County, Iowa

May 10, 1915 - Their first child, George Lambert, was born in Woden, Hancock County, Iowa.

There is no date on his WWI draft registration card, but he states that he has a wife and one child.  The form used was World War I Draft Registration Card A - (5 June 1917), which was used to register men in the first registration period.  Hemme G. Henrichs was 25 years old with a birthday of January 31, 1892.  He was born in Wellsburg, Iowa, USA.  His home address was Woden, Iowa.  He was a natural citizen.  He was employed as a reg. brakeman with the New York Central Ry in Elkhart, Ind. Western Div.  He did not claim exemption from the draft.  He was a tall Caucasion with a medium build, blue eyes, and light hair.  He was not bald. 

July 13, 1917 - Ben George was born in Woden, Hancock County, Iowa.

1920 census

August 30, 1923 - Hemme George was born in Hartland, Freeborn County, Minnesota.

1930 census - Albert Lea, MN

August 2, 1932 - Their only daughter, Illena Maxsena, was born in Albert Lea, Freeborn County, Minnesota.

August 23, 1942 - Hemme drowned in a boating accident on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea.

January 13, 1984 - Kate died at Good Samaratin Nursing Home in Albert Lea.  She never remarried.

George

George married Mary Alberta Koch on May 11, 1935, in Albert Lea, Freeborn County, Minnesota.  They later divorced.  Alberta was the daughter of Alfred Alfred Koch and Mary Etta LeVake.  She was born on September 6, 1911, in Albert Lea.  Alberta died on March 14, 2005, in Albert Lea.  She was cremated and buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea on March 26, 2005, after a small memorial service at Good Samaritan Nursing Home conducted by Reverand Kent Otterman.

Both George and Alberta worked in the family business, Henrich Laundry, along with Kate after Hemme passed away.  Alberta continued to work there after they were divorced. 

George and Alberta had one daughter, Elinor Rosalie Henrichs.  Elinor was born April 24, 1937, in Albert Lea.  Elinor married Richard Wayne Nielson on August 27, 1956, in Albert Lea.  Richard was born on August 30, 1929, in Hollandale, Freeborn County, Minnesota.  He passed away on September 20, 2001, in Albert Lea.  Elinor died on November 5, 2007, also in Albert Lea.  Elinor and Richard had 2 children. 

George married, as his second wife, Inez S. Hillman in Billings, Yellowstone County, Montana.  Inez was the daughter of Arthur Hillman and Bertha R. Hanson.  She was born on August 10, 1923, in Worth County, Iowa. 

George and Inez had one daughter, who is still living.

George and Inez divorced August 17, 1989, in Lyon County, Nevada. 

George died March 4, 2002.

Inez died July 25, 2003.
