Earl Chandler 1940
Earl Baxter Chandler, son of Christopher Columbus Chandler and Lamerlis Caldonia Doak, was born September 17, 1886, in Alsea, Benton County, Oregon.  He moved with his parents to Modoc County, California about 1901.  He went with his sister Edna to Orondo, Douglas County, Washington in 1902 where he later operated a ferry across the Columbia River.

Emma Elizabeth Sonney, daughter of John Perry Sonney and Carrie Melissa Dunaway, was born August 15, 1893, in Blair, Washington County, Nebraska.  In 1898 the family took the train to Orondo, Douglas County, Washington where they became fruit farmers.  After completing the 7th grade, she became the schoolteacher of the one-room school in Orondo.  The oldest student was in the 8th grade.  Since she had not completed the 8th grade herself, they did the coursework together.

December 24, 1913 - Earl and Emma were married in Waterville, Douglas County, Washington by H. M. Coursa, a Presbyterian minister.  The bride's father, John Sonney, was one of the witnesses.

September 29, 1914 - Their first child, Ranald Perry Chandler, was born in
Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.

November 26, 1915 - The second child in the family, Morris Earl Chandler, was born in
Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.

June 2, 1917 - Their first daughter, Vera Ruth Chandler, was born in
Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.

June 5, 1917 - When Earl registered for the draft, he was described as tall and slender with gray eyes and brown hair.  He claimed exemption based on his wife and 3 children.  He was a ferryman and a farmer. 

July 19, 1919 - Doris Irene Chandler was born in
Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.

January 7, 1920 - The Chandler family was living in
Orondo precinct district 13, Douglas County, Washington.
  • Earl B., 33 years old, was born in Oregon, and could read, write, and speak English.  He was a fruit farmer working on his own account.
  • Emma E., 26 years old, was born in Nebraska, and could read, write, and speak English. 
  • Ranald P. was 5 years old.
  • Morris E. was 4 1/12 years old.
  • Vera R. was 2 6/12 years old.
  • Dorris I. was 5/12 years old.
February 27, 1921 - The youngest daughter, Fern Marian Chandler, was born in Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.

November 18, 1922 - Howard Sonney Chandler was born in
Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.

December 13, 1924 - The last child, Ernest Edwin Chandler, was born in
Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.

April 8, 1930 - The Chandler family owned their home in
Orondo precinct, Douglas County, Washington.  They did own a radio. 
  • Earl B. was 43 years old and had been married for the first time at the age of 27.  He could read and write and had been born in Oregon.  He was a fruit farmer working on his own account and was not a veteran.
  • Emma E. was 36 years old and had been married for the first time at the age of 20.  She could read and write and had been born in Nebraska. 
  • Ranald P. was 15 years old, had attended school within the year, could read and write, and was born in Washington.
  • Morris E. was 14 years old, had attended school within the year, could read and write, and was born in Washington.
  • Vera R. was 12 years old, had attended school within the year, could read and write, and was born in Washington.
  • Doris I. was 10 years old, had attended school within the year, could read and write, and was born in Washington.
  • Fern M. was 9 years old, had attended school within the year, and was born in Washington.
  • Howard S. was 7 years old, had attended school within the year, and was born in Washington.
  • Ernest E. was 5 years old and was born in Washington.

August 5, 1956 - Earl died at the Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington from lymphosarcoma at the age of 69 years old.  He had had a biopsy of his inguinal gland on February 10, 1955.  He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee, Douglas County, Washington. 

June 14, 1982 - Emma died at the Cowlitz Convalescent Center in Longview, Cowlitz County, Washington from cerebral thrombosis at the age of 88 years old.  She had had arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease for an unknown amount of time. 

June 18, 1982 - Emma was buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenachee, Douglas County, Washington.


Ranald

Ranald married Cecile Elizabeth Millhorn on November 26, 1938, in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington.  Cecile was born on May 21, 1910, in Rockford, Spokane County, Washington to William and Edith Millhorn. 

Ranald died on March 18, 1971, in Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington.  He is buried in the Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee, Douglas County, Washington. 

Cecile died on November 1, 1989 in Kennewick, Benton County, Washington. 

Ranald and Cecile had 2 children, both of whom are still alive.

Morris

Morris married Viola Louise Leonhardt on March 25, 1945, in Richmond Hill, Richmond County, New York.  Vi was born on May 23, 1916, in Brooklyn, New York to William and Augusta Leonhardt. 

Morris died on July 23, 1985, in Bethpage, Nassau County, New York.  He is buried in the Calverton National Cemetery, Suffolk County, New York.

Vi died on July 20, 1994.  She is also buried in the Calverton National Cemetery, Suffolk County, New York.

Morris and Vi had 2 children, both of whom are still alive.

Vera

Vera married William Scott Whyatt on December 13, 1941, in Chelan County, Washington.  Bill was born on September 26, 1910, in Riverside, Washington to Joseph and Isabelle Whyatt.

Bill died on December 8, 1946, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. 

Vera died on September 8, 2005, in Longview, Cowlitz County, Washington.

Bill and Vera had 2 children.

Doris

Doris married Merlin Francis "Bud" Berg on August 15, 1942, in Dothan, Houston County, Alabama at the Episcopal church.  They met at Ft. Lewis, WA when Bud was stationed there.  Doris lived with the Jessup family in Olympia providing nanny services and also worked in the Office of the Secretary of State for the State of Washington.  Reverand Jessup led the Episcopal congregation in Olympia.  Bud and Doris met at a dance at Ft. Lewis.  Bud bought Doris a soda, and while  they sat across from each other in a booth, he spilled the soda on her dress so that she would have to sit and talk to him while it dried.  He proposed to her on his 25th birthday, and left soon after for Camp Rucker, Alabama.  In August, Doris took the bus to Alabama and they were married the day after her arrival.

Bud was born on April 28, 1917, near Cyrus in Stevens County, Minnesota to Axel and Jessie Berg

Doris died on October 3, 1994, in Coon Rapids, Anoka County, Minnesota from cardiomyopathy.  She was buried in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery on October 7, 1994. 

Bud died on December 28, 1999, in Albert Lea, Freeborn County, MN.  He was buried on December 31, 1999, in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery,  The cause of his death was non-hodgkin lymphoma.

Bud and Doris had 3 children, all of whom are still alive.

Fern

Fern married Jimmie Norman Almquist on September 6, 1947, in Orondo, Douglas County, Washington.  Jim was born on March 4, 1921, in Republic, Ferry County, Washington to George and Derena Almquist. 

Fern died on July 1, 2007.

Jim and Fern had 6 children, all of whom are still alive.

Howard

Howard married Annamae Frances Barber on August 10, 1947, in Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington.  Annamae was born on May 30, 1929, in Shelton, Mason County, Washington to Neal and Frances Barber. 

Howard died on November 1, 2002.  He is buried in the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.

Howard and Annamae had 4 children.

Ernie

Ernie married Lila Marie Cozart on Jan 26, 1947, in Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington.  Lila was born on June 3, 1927, in Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington to John and Alice Cozart.

Ernie died on August 12, 1986, when the combine he was driving rolled over.

Ernie and Lila had 2 children, both of whom are still alive.
